Dog Chips – Tiny But Important

Photo of Johnny Mitchell and his Pomeranian AustinJohnny Mitchell and his Pomeranian Austin (“the Flyin’ Lion”) were familiar sights along the Venice Beach boardwalk for years.  They appeared at many Los Angeles skateboarding events and on nighttime television.

Then, a year and a half ago, Austin disappeared.

Considerable efforts were made to find the lost dog.  Rewards were offered, flyers posted, neighborhoods canvassed.  Nothing.  Johnny kept his hopes alive but had to return to his hometown in Louisiana to help care for his mother.

Earlier this month Johnny received a call from a veterinarian in Visalia, CA, hundreds of miles north of Los Angeles in California’s Central Valley.  Thanks to Austin’s implanted microchip Johnny was identified as the dog’s owner and located.  The two of them were happily reunited in Venice this week.
